Turkey’s Borsa Istanbul down over 5% at close

BIST 100 falls nearly 106 points from Monday’s close

Turkiye’s benchmark stock index closed the day at 1,979.83 points on Tuesday, down 5.08% from the previous close.

After starting the day at 2,082.81 points, Borsa Istanbul’s BIST 100 index lost 105.93 points from Monday’s close of 2,085.76 points.

The index’s lowest value during the day was 1,979.83 points, while its daily high was 2,086.27.

The total market value of the BIST 100 was around 1.58 trillion Turkish liras (some $117.6 billion) by market close, with a daily trading volume of 35.4 billion liras ($2.6 billion).

During the second transaction day of the week, three stocks on the index rose and 97 fell compared to Monday’s close.

The highest trading volumes were posted by private lender Garanti, flag carrier Turkish Airlines, and iron/steel producer Kardemir.

Thermal power plant Can2 was the best performer, with its shares up 2.28%,while stocks of petrochemical firm Petkim saw the sharpest drop, 9.15%.

The price of one ounce of gold was $1,813.60 by market close.

The price of Brent crude oil was around $87.50 per barrel as of 6.30 p.m. local time (1530GMT).
