Turkey’s Borsa Istanbul closes Tuesday with new records

BIST 100 gains 53.65 points, or 2.78%, from previous close

Turkey’s benchmark stock index ended with gains on Tuesday to hit another record closing of 1,981.04 points, while it hit a new intraday all-time high of 1,983.99 points during the session.

After starting the day at 1,983.99 points, Borsa Istanbul’s BIST 100 index gained 53.65 points, or 2.78%, from the previous close of 1,927.39 points.

The index’s lowest value during the day was 1,942.50 points, while its daily high was 1,983.99 points.

The total market value of the BIST 100 was around 1.6 trillion Turkish liras ($116 billion) by market close, with a daily trading volume of approximately 42 billion liras ($3 billion).

While 75 stocks on the index rose during the day, 22 fell, and three remained unchanged compared to Monday’s close.

The highest trading volumes were posted by glassmaker Sise Cam, cement producer Akcansa, and iron and steel producer Eregli.

Shares of Sise Cam did the best with its shares up 9.97%,while stocks of hospital group MLP Saglik saw the sharpest drop, 1.95%.

One ounce of gold traded for $1,781.00 by market close, up from $1,778.35 at the previous close, according to data from Borsa Istanbul’s Precious Metals and Diamond Markets.

The price of Brent crude oil was up 3% to $75.28 per barrel as of 6.39 p.m. local time (1539GMT).
