Turkey’s Borsa Istanbul closes Monday with new record

BIST 100 index gains 18.15 points, or 1.04%, from previous close

Turkey’s benchmark stock index ended with gains on Monday to finish at 1,755.48 points — a record-high daily closing.

After starting the day at 1,751.05 points, Borsa Istanbul’s BIST 100 index gained 18.15 points, or 1.04%, from Friday’s close of 1,737.33 points.

The BIST 100’s lowest value during the day was 1,741.17 points and its daily high was 1,759.16 points.

The total market value of the index was over 1.39 trillion Turkish liras ($126.4 billion) by market close, with a daily trading volume of more than 23.5 billion Turkish liras ($2.1 billion).

A total of 75 stocks on the index rose, while 22 fell, and three remained unchanged compared to Friday’s close.

The highest trading volumes were posted by national flag carrier Turkish Airlines,private lender Garanti BBVA, and glassmaker Sisecam.

Shares of carmaker Tofas performed the best, rising 7.68%, while the stocks of Gozde Girisim dropped the most, 1.91%.

One ounce of gold traded for $1,840.60 by market close, down from $1,860.25 at the previous close, according to data from Borsa Istanbul’s Precious Metals and Diamond Markets.

The price of Brent crude oil was up 0.6% to $79.39 per barrel as of 6.28 p.m. local time (1528GMT).
