Turkey’s Borsa Istanbul closes at fresh new record

BIST 100 index gains 8.45 points from previous close

Turkey’s benchmark stock index closed higher on Wednesday to hit another all-time high of 1,624.09 points.

After starting the day at 1,618.06 points, Borsa Istanbul’s BIST 100 index gained 8.45 points, or 0.52%, from Tuesday’s close of 1,615.64 points.

This was the fifth consecutive trading day that the BIST 100 posted an all-time high, and the sixth day in a row the index closed with gains.

The index’s lowest value during the day was 1,603.78 points and its daily high was 1,627.22 points.

The total market value of the BIST 100 was over 1.26 trillion Turkish liras ($130.6 billion) by market close, with a daily trading volume of over 29 billion Turkish liras ($2.96 billion).

A total of 45 stocks on the index rose, while 51 fell, and four remained unchanged compared to Tuesday’s close.

The highest trading volumes were posted by private lender Garanti BBVA, petrochemical firm Petkim, and national flag carrier Turkish Airlines.

Shares of automotive company Dogus Otomotiv performed the best, rising 9.96%, while stocks of electrolytic copper producer Sarkuysan​​​​​​​ ​​​​​​​dropped the most, 6.96%.

One ounce of gold traded for $1,823.10 by market close, down from $1,825.10 at the previous close, according to data from Borsa Istanbul’s Precious Metals and Diamond Markets.

The price of Brent crude oil was down 0.26% to $84.56 per barrel as of 6.26 p.m. local time (1526GMT).
