Turkiye achieved the highest January-September export of all time to Japan with $442 million 631 thousand.

The Distant Countries Strategy, which was prepared by taking the traditional product-market structure of exports to the next level and focusing on new product and new market diversity and was implemented in 2022, is being carried out dynamically.

While it is aimed to increase the average export range to 4 thousand 744 kilometers, which is the world average, the high performance in exports to Japan, which is among the countries in this strategy, shows how successful Turkiye is in market diversity.

Agreements and commercial cooperation with Japan also reveal the progress made in trade between the two countries.

Last month, a “Joint Declaration” was signed between Turkiye and Japan regarding the launch of the “Turkiye-Japan Energy Forum”, which is planned to be held to develop cooperation in the field of energy.

A “joint declaration on the development of trade and investment” was also signed between the two countries.

According to data compiled from the Turkish Exporters Assembly (TIM), Turkiye’s exports decreased by 0.3% in the 9 months of the year compared to the same period of the previous year, falling to $187 billion 463 million.

The highest demand from Japan came to the grain sector

In the January-September period, the grains, pulses, oilseeds and their products sector made the most exports to Japan. The sector exported $74.4 million to Japan during this period.

This sector was followed by mining products with $51.7 million, the automotive industry with $38 million, chemicals and products with $37.9 million, and aquaculture and animal products with $37.2 million.

While other industrial products sector does not export anything to the country, the least demand came from ornamental plants and products with $42 thousand, ships, yachts and services with $475 thousand, cement, glass, ceramics and soil products with $1.6 million, furniture, paper and forest products with $3.2 million.

The highest export increase comes from the olive and olive oil sector

In the January-September period, the highest increase in exports to Japan was made by the olive and olive oil sector, with $10 million. This sector was followed by fruit and vegetable products with $7.7 million, machinery and parts with $7.6 million, cereals, pulses, oilseeds and products with $7.1 million, and jewelry with $5.5 million.

The olive and olive oil sector exported $24 million to the country, fruit and vegetable products $32.3 million, machinery and parts $21.1 million, and the jewelry sector $10.2 million.

Exports to Japan amounted to $126 million from Istanbul, $70.3 million from Izmir, $43.7 million from Ankara, $43.4 million from Bursa and $18.7 million from Antalya.
