Turkey: We expect new records in beet production

Minister of Agriculture and Forestry, Dr. Bekir Pakdemirli, who stated that there will be less water problems in beet production compared to 2021, thanks to the fact that the precipitation in autumn is higher than last year’s precipitation, gave the good news that new records are expected in the 2022/2023 beet production period.

Minister of Agriculture and Forestry Pakdemirli stated that they expect new records in the beet production period this year and that they signed a production contract of 1.1 million tons with farmers in a week.

NO FARMERS WILL BE VICTIMIZED

Minister Pakdemirli stated that the ₺875 beet price announced by our President, Mr. Recep Tayyip Erdogan, was welcomed by the farmers and that the interest in beet has increased considerably, “For the first time, the advance purchase price of sugar was announced at the beginning of the year. The final beet purchase price will be announced before the harvest, taking into account the economic developments and alternative product prices. Therefore, none of our farmers will be victimized.”

1.1 MILLION TONS OF BEET PRODUCTION COMMITMENT IN ONE WEEK

Underlining that Turkseker has started to sign beet production contracts through 15 sugar factories and 62 agricultural regional chiefdoms in 35 provinces, Minister Pakdemirli said, “Turkseker continues to work in the field day and night with a team of approximately 700 people, 170 of whom are technical personnel. As a result of these efforts, contracts were signed in 409 villages in a short time like a week, with approximately 1.1 million tons of beet production commitment from 4 thousand 252 farmers.”

WE EXPECT NEW RECORDS IN BEET PRODUCTION

Pakdemirli stated that the precipitation in autumn was higher than last year’s precipitation, “Moreover, we are having a winter with plenty of snow and then we expect abundant rains. Meteorological data herald that there will be less water problems in beet production this year compared to last year. When the expected climatic conditions occur, we expect new records in beet production in 2022.”

SUPPORT TO BEET FARMERS INCREASED

Pointing out that Turkseker has increased its support to the beet farmer in the 2022 production period, Pakdemirli said, “Turkseker increased our farmer’s ration pulp ratio from 17% to 20%, and the number of advances given three times without interest to 4. In order for our farmers not to have financial problems, the advance amount was increased by 100% and determined as ₺36 per ton for each period.”
