Exporters who added value to the leather industry were awarded at TIM Foreign Trade Complex

310 companies that were successful in the export of leather and leather products last year were awarded.

According to the statement made by the Istanbul Leather and Leather Products Exporters’ Association (IDMIB), the exporters who shape the sector met with their awards at the “IDMIB Make a Difference in Export” ceremony held at the TIM Foreign Trade Complex.

In the organization where the companies that contributed to the $1.35 billion export of the sector last year were awarded, 182 companies were awarded in the platinum, gold, silver, bronze and special award categories, while 128 exporters were presented with certificates of achievement.

Riza Tuna Turagay, Deputy Minister of Commerce, whose speech at the award ceremony was included in the statement, stated that the 2020 exports of the leather industry approached $1.4 billion. “We have a long way to go. Turkishleather.com is an important portal. It is also a great indicator of how the Turkish exporter reaches foreign buyers in B2B. Our e-commerce leather industry is another issue that offers opportunities for our footwear industry. Because the world is moving in this direction.”

TIM President Ismail Gulle stated that he is a candidate to be among the leading sectors in the promotion of Turkey with his historical background and sectoral experience in the leather industry.

Referring to the problems experienced in global trade in the last 2 years and the work they have done in this process, Gulle said, “Thankfully, we see the fruits of our work.

In the last 12 months, our exports exceeded $212 billion. Turkey grew by 21.7% in the first quarter of the year due to the positive figures from exports, making it one of the fastest recovering economies in the world.”

“WE CAN EXHIBIT OUR PRODUCTS 24/7”

Mustafa Senocak, President of IDMIB, stated that there were negative experiences in the leather industry, exports and capacity utilization rates during the epidemic, but the decline rate in the global area was higher.

Senocak stated that digitalization and e-commerce came to the fore in this process and they started to take appropriate measures for the process.

“Our Turkishleather.com portal was launched in January. Our 177 exporting companies find the opportunity to promote their products to global buyers in their digital stores that are open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. More than 1,300 approved foreign buyers from 119 different countries have registered on our portal. Again in this process, we implemented Turkey’s first digital Ur-Ge project with the support of our Ministry in order to increase the e-commerce capability of our sector. I congratulate our award-winning companies.”

Senocak stated that global demands shifted to Turkey due to problems arising from production and logistics, and explained that they should ensure that the demands are permanent.
