Istanbul has the highest share of the gross domestic product

According to TUIK data, Istanbul reached the highest gross domestic product last year with ₺1 trillion 517 billion 324 million. Ankara followed this province with ₺482 billion 589 million and a share of 9.6%, and Izmir with a share of ₺306 billion 713 million and 6.1%.

According to the calculations made at the provincial level, Istanbul had the highest share of the gross domestic product (GDP) with ₺1 trillion 517 billion 324 million (30.1%) in 2020, followed by Ankara and Izmir.

The Turkish Statistical Institute announced the “Gross Domestic Product” data for 2020 on a provincial basis.

Accordingly, Istanbul reached the highest GDP with ₺1 trillion 517 billion 324 million in 2020 and received a share of 30.1% from the total revenue. Ankara followed this province with ₺482 billion 589 million and a share of 9.6%, and Izmir with a share of ₺306 billion 713 million and 6.1%.

The top 5 provinces with the highest share in GDP accounted for 53.5% of the total revenue in 2020.

Tunceli with ₺5 billion 65 million, Ardahan with ₺4 billion 487 million and Bayburt with ₺3 billion 191 million took the last 3 places in the GDP calculations at the provincial level.

NATIONAL INCOME PER CAPITA OF 14 PROVINCES IS ABOVE THE AVERAGE

In the said period, Istanbul ranked first in GDP per capita with ₺97 thousand 950. This province was followed by Kocaeli with ₺96 thousand 745 and Ankara with ₺85 thousand 396.

In the per capita GDP calculations at the provincial level, Van with ₺22 thousand 104, Agri with ₺21 thousand 357 and Sanliurfa with ₺20 thousand 421 took the last three places.

GDP per capita was above Turkey’s average for 14 provinces in 2020.

KONYA RANKS FIRST IN AGRICULTURE, FORESTRY AND FISHING SECTOR

When the activities that make up the GDP are analyzed, Istanbul, which has the highest share of GDP at current prices in 2020, ranked first in all activities, excluding the agriculture sector and other service activities.

The share of Istanbul in the total of information and communication activities is 64.4%, the share it receives from the total of finance and insurance activities is 58.7%. Istanbul’s share in the total of professional, administrative and support service activities was 46%, its share from the total services sector was 40.8%, and its share from the total construction sector was 33.2%.

While Konya ranks first among 81 provinces in agriculture, forestry and fisheries sector with a share of 5.9%, Ankara was at the top in other service activities with a share of 41.1%.

While Istanbul had a 40.8% share of the total services sector in 2020, the share of the services sector in the province’s total GDP was 30.3%. Within the total GDP of Istanbul, the industrial sector ranked second with a share of 17.9%, while vocational, administrative and support service activities took the third place with a share of 7.3%.

ANNUAL GDP INCREASED OVER THE TURKISH AVERAGE IN 63 PROVINCES

Annual GDP, with the chained volume index, increased by 1.79% in 2020 compared to the previous year, while an increase was higher than the average of Turkey in 63 provinces.

The first three provinces with the highest increase in 2020 compared to the previous year were Aksaray with a change rate of 15.8%, Ardahan with 15.5% and Canakkale with 13.9%, respectively.

The three provinces with the highest decrease compared to the previous year were Nevsehir with a rate of change of 4.7%, Mugla with 8.3% and Antalya with 24.3%, respectively.

Ankara was the province that contributed the most to the 1.79% increase in the annual GDP compared to the previous year with the chained volume index, with 0.59%. Ankara was followed by Gaziantep with 0.21% and Kocaeli with 0.19%.

Antalya with 0.85%, Mugla with 0.11% and Istanbul with 0.09% came at the beginning of the provinces that had a negative impact on annual GDP growth in 2020.
