New car sales increased in the EU in September

Total sales in the European Union automobile market rose by 9.6% in September.

The European Automobile Manufacturers Association (ACEA) has announced new car registration data for the European Union (EU) countries for September.

Accordingly, new automobile sales, which were 718 thousand 718 in September last year, increased by 9.6% to 787 thousand 870 in the same period of this year.

In September of last year, especially chip shortages had reduced vehicle production in Europe. The rise in September of this year was due to the base effect of last year.

Automobile sales among EU countries increased by 14.1% in Germany, 12.7% in Spain, 5.5% in France and 5.4% in Italy in September compared to the same period of the previous year.

Among the 27 EU member states, Germany had the highest number of new cars in September. During this period, 224 thousand 816 new cars were registered in Germany, 141 thousand 137 in France, 110 thousand 976 in Italy and 67 thousand 240 in Spain.

New vehicle registrations in the EU decreased by 9.9%in January-September 2022 compared to the same period of the previous year, to 6 million 784 thousand 318.

According to the manufacturers, VW Group sold the most new cars in the EU in September with 196,19.

Stellantis Group followed VW Group in new vehicle sales in EU. Stellantis Group, which includes brands such as Peugeot, Fiat, Citroen and Opel, sold a total of 148 thousand 761 cars.

Renault Group took the third place with 85 thousand 132 new cars, while Hyundai Group took the fourth place with 71 thousand 15 vehicles.
