Turkey: The loan volume of the banking sector rose to ₺5.8 trillion

The loan volume of the banking sector increased by ₺132 billion 895 million last week and reached ₺5 trillion 776 billion 996 million.

According to the weekly bulletin published by the Banking Regulation and Supervision Agency (BDDK), the loan volume of the sector increased by ₺132 billion 895 million as of May 13. In the said period, the total loan volume increased from ₺5 trillion 644 billion 101 million to ₺5 trillion 776 billion 996 million.

Total deposits in the banking sector (including interbank) increased by ₺165 billion 172 million last week. The total deposits of the banking sector, which increased by 2.7% in the week in question, became ₺6 trillion 339 billion 479 million.

The amount of consumer loans increased to ₺846 billion

According to the data, the amount of consumer loans increased by ₺13 billion 171 million as of May 13 to ₺845 billion 906 million. ₺324 billion 296 million of the said loans consisted of housing loans, ₺18 billion 488 million for vehicles and ₺503 billion 122 million for consumer loans.

In the said period, the amount of commercial loans with installments increased by ₺10 billion 242 million and reached ₺788 billion 556 million. Banks’ personal credit card receivables increased by 2.4 percent to reach ₺247 billion 503 million. ₺99 billion 340 million of personal credit card receivables were in installments and ₺148 billion 163 million were without installments.

Legal equity increased

According to the weekly data of the BRSA, NPLs in the banking sector increased by ₺284 million compared to the previous week and reached ₺161 billion 469 million as of May 13. A special provision has been set aside for ₺130 billion 56 million of the aforementioned non-performing loans.

In the same period, legal equities of the banking system increased by ₺69 million and reached 1 trillion ₺170 billion 891 million.
