Turkey: Steel industry took the top spot in exports for the first time

The steel industry continues to grow in exports. The sector that contributed the most to exports in Turkey last month was the steel sector.

Adnan Aslan, Chairman of the Board of the Steel Exporters’ Association (CIB), said, “Our industry continues to grow by diversifying its export markets. Last month, we became the sector that contributed the most to our country’s total exports. We’re proud.”

According to the statement made by the CIB, Turkey’s total exports increased by 30% on an annual basis to $20.8 billion in September, while the steel industry is at the top among the sectors with exports of $2.6 billion.

The sector revised its export target to $22 billion.

Aslan said, “We have achieved the strength of our industry, which has an important place in the global steel market, by making it sustainable and by fighting against the restrictions caused by the pandemic.”
