Turkey: Retail sales volume up 4.6% in February

Food, non-food drinks, tobacco, automotive fuel sales post increases in February says TurkStat

Turkey’s retail sales volume with constant prices jumped 4.6% year-on-year in February, according to official figures released on Tuesday.

Sales of food, drink, and tobacco increased 8.1% during the month, the Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat) said.

Non-food except automotive fuel sales increased 4%, while automotive fuel sales posted a rise of 0.8%.

Among non-food items, sales of computers, books, and telecommunications equipment were up 12.6%, while electronic goods and furniture sales rose 8.9%, the latest figures showed.

Sales of textile, clothing, and footwear declined 14.8%, along with a drop of 2.4% in sales of medical goods and cosmetics.

Sales by mail orders and internet climbed 80.1% year-on-year in February.

Meanwhile, the retail sales volume was up 3.4% on a monthly basis, TurkStat said.
