Turkey: January exports of the automotive industry decreased by 1.6% to $2.2 billion

The January exports of the Turkish automotive industry decreased by 1.6% to $2.2 billion. Despite the decrease experienced, the share of the sector, which still ranks first in Turkey’s exports, in total exports was 12.7%.

Uludag Automotive Industry Exporters’ Association (OIB) President Baran Celik said, “In the first month of 2022, when we entered in the shadow of problems such as the semiconductor chip crisis, raw material supply problems and increasing costs, the largest product group was again the supply industry. Supply industry exports rose 7% in January to $951 million. We recorded a 21% decrease in passenger cars and a 39% increase in bus-minibus-midibus exports. On a country basis, there were high increases of up to 40% in countries such as the United Kingdom, the United States and Egypt. We had double-digit declines in France and Italy.”
