Turkey is the European leader in solar panel production

Stating that Turkey is the first in Europe and the fourth in the world in solar panel production, Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Fatih Donmez said that their goal is to enter the top three in the world.

Turkey’s installed power exceeded 100 thousand megawatts as of the end of March this year.

Especially with the renewable energy investments made in recent years, the share of renewable energy in electricity increased from 38% in 2002 to 54%.

Installed solar power increased 200 times in 8 years

The most remarkable increase in these investments was in solar energy.

Turkey’s solar energy installed power, which was 40 megawatts in 2014, increased 200 times in 8 years and exceeded 8 thousand megawatts.

LEADER IN PANEL PRODUCTION IN EUROPE

It has an annual panel production capacity of 185 thousand megawatts worldwide.

China ranks first in the world with a production capacity of 124 thousand megawatts. China is followed by Vietnam with 14 thousand megawatts and South Korea with 9 thousand 200 megawatts. Turkey, on the other hand, ranks fourth in the world with a production capacity of 7,960 megawatts. Following Turkey is Malaysia with a production capacity of 7,400 megawatts and the USA with a production capacity of 5,700 megawatts.

In addition, the total production capacity of all EU countries is at the level of 3 thousand 200 megawatts. Accordingly, Turkey is the leader in Europe with its production capacity of 7,960 megawatts. It is predicted that Turkey will increase its solar production capacity to 9,110 megawatts with the investments to be made in 2022 and 2023.

EQUIPMENT LOCALITY INCREASED

On the other hand, investments in wind energy installed power, which exceeded the limit of 10 thousand megawatts last year, continue unabated this year. The installed power in wind energy, which has spread to many regions of Turkey, especially the Aegean, reached 10,864 megawatts and approached the 11 thousand megawatt limit.

The rate of domesticity in the equipment used in wind energy production has also increased. Domestic production, which first started with the production of “tower”, has diversified and reached a variety that includes turbine production. Wind turbines, blades and towers produced in Turkey are exported to many countries of the world.

THE TARGET IS TO ENTER THE TOP 3 IN THE WORLD

Fatih Donmez, Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, said that the increase in the share of domestic and renewable energy in the total electricity installed capacity is of great importance in energy supply security.

Stating that the investments made in this context have started to reap the benefits, Donmez said:

“It is not enough to just increase the share of renewables in our installed power. It is necessary to localize its technology. This is what Turkey has achieved. We have become one of the world’s leading producers of both wind and sun, but we are not satisfied with these. We aim to be among the top three in the world in solar panel production next year with new investments.”
