Turkiye’s light commercial vehicle and truck exports exceeded $5 billion last year

In the Turkish automotive industry, exports of “motor vehicles for transporting goods”, which include light commercial vehicles, pickup trucks and trucks, were $5 billion 53 million 950 thousand last year.

According to the AA reporter’s compilation of Uludag Automotive Industry Exporters’ Association (OIB) data, the automotive industry realized foreign sales of $30 billion 995 million 808 thousand last year, an increase of 5.7% compared to 2021.

The export of “motor vehicles for transporting goods”, which is one of the sub-product groups of the automotive industry, decreased by 5.15% in 2022 compared to the previous year. Light commercial vehicle-van and truck exports, which were $5 billion 328 million 287 thousand in 2021, were recorded as $5 billion 53 million 950 thousand in 2022.

Last year, the share of the “motor vehicles for goods transport” sector, which sells to more than 100 countries and autonomous and free zones, in automotive exports was 16.3%.

About 3 out of 4 of the vehicles produced were exported

The Turkish automotive industry produced 1 million 402 thousand 189 vehicles, including tractors, and exported 988 thousand 278 of them last year.

Of the vehicles produced, 483 thousand 181 were “motor vehicles for transporting goods”, of which 441 thousand 637 were light commercial vehicles and pickup trucks, and 41 thousand 544 were trucks. The share of the motor vehicles group for transporting goods in total vehicle production was 34.45.

Of the 483 thousand 181 light commercial vehicles and trucks produced, 355 thousand 271, or 73.52%, were exported.

$1.4 billion export to England

The country to which the sector exported the most in this product group last year was England. Exports of “motor vehicles for the transport of goods” to the UK decreased by 14% last year compared to 2021 and amounted to $1 billion 392 million 219 thousand.

Exports to Italy, which ranks second, reached $590 million 3 thousand with an increase of 3% compared to 2021.

The exports of the sector representatives to Slovenia, which ranks third, were $556 million 894 thousand in 2021, while it was recorded as $490 million 466 thousand in 2022.

Exports to the USA increased by 124.75%

Exports to the United States increased by 124.75% compared to 2021. The export of “motor vehicles for transporting goods”, which was $171 million 636 thousand in the previous year, reached $385 million 753 thousand last year.
