Turkey: Household appliances sales bounce back in June

Sector sees 25% year-on-year rise in production last month, says head of sectoral body

After shrinking significantly this March to May due to the coronavirus pandemic, household appliance sales bounced back in June, according to the head of White Goods Manufacturers’ Association of Turkey (TURKBESD).

“While sales on the domestic market rose 14% year-on-year in June,” Can Dincer told a virtual press conference on Tuesday. “We saw a 4% rise in total including exports during the same period.”

Household appliances production in the country surged 25% in June compared to same month last year, Dincer stressed.

“We expect this upward trend to continue in July and August,” he added.

Pointing to supply chain disruptions the sector faced after the onset of the virus, Dincer said the problems were solved thanks to the rapid response and commitments by Turkish suppliers.

“As Turkey is the second-largest white goods producer in the world after China, the two countries should cooperate on the diversification of supply chains,” he said.
