Turkey: Heavy commercial vehicle sales increased by 60%

Truck and tow truck sales increased by 60% to 25,908 units in 2021. The market, which saw 7 thousand 444 units in 2019, started to rise again.

The heavy commercial vehicle market in Turkey for the period January-December 2021 increased by 60% compared to the same period of the previous year. According to TAID (Heavy Commercial Vehicles Association) data, the total number of vehicles sold in this period was 25,908. Tow truck sales increased by 60% in the January-December period of 2021 compared to the previous year to 17 thousand 537 units, while truck sales increased by 61% to 8 thousand 371 units. The market, which declined to 7 thousand units in 2019, started to rise again. However, the heavy commercial vehicle industry, which saw more than 30 thousand units before, is still far from its bright days.

DEMAND IS DELAYED FOR 5 YEARS

In the first months of the year, record increases were seen in heavy commercial vehicle sales. The market grew by 219% in January, 87% in February, 198% in March, 350% in April, 217% in May, and 117% in June. The market contracted by 6% in July, 11% in August, and 19% in September. With October, a revival was seen in the market. Sales rose 35% in October, 66% in November, and 18% in December. Dogus Automotive Scania General Manager Tolga Senyucel stated that the average of the last 10 years of the Turkish heavy commercial vehicle market is around 25 thousand units and said, “Since 2015, there has been a delayed demand in the heavy commercial vehicle market. With the reflection of these demands on the market for the last two years, we are closing 2021 with an increase after 2020.”
