Turkey exports ₺7.6 million worth of chili peppers to 107 countries

Chili pepper exports from Turkey in 2020 increased by 30% compared to the previous year.

Exports of chili peppers, which are produced in Turkey and one of the indispensable flavors of meals, increased by 30% in 2020 compared to the previous year and reached $7 million 637 thousand.

According to the information compiled by the AA correspondent from the data of Southeastern Anatolia Exporters Union (GAIB), $5 million 876 thousand of chili pepper was exported to Turkey in 2019. In 2020, exports exceeded the previous year’s figures by 30%, reaching $7 million 637 thousand.

Last year, 2,571 tons of chili peppers were sold to 107 countries, including Germany, Saudi Arabia, UK, Netherlands, France, Sweden, Canada, Italy, USA, Netherlands, Cameroon, Hungary, Equatorial Guinea, Tanzania, Estonia, Congo, Papua New Guinea, Vietnam, Ethiopia, Costa Rica, Gabon, and Romania.

Germany took the first place in chili pepper exports with 755 tons. Saudi Arabia with 477 tons and England with 220 tons followed this country.

Sanliurfa Commodity Exchange Council President Isa Kizildemir told Anadolu Agency (AA) that the high chili pepper export figures are pleasing for the citizens of Sanliurfa, the homeland of isot.

Stating that the producers have not left their fields despite the epidemic period and that they have had a fertile season in pepper as in other agricultural products, Kizildemir said, “The increase in export figures is a pleasing development for us. The world is now aware of this new taste. I hope that those who enjoy this chili will not be able to leave again and we will encounter an increasing export every year. We also have a slogan for him, ‘Our chili is hot, we are in good mood.’ I hope we will achieve even better export figures in 2021.”
