Turkiye: Great increase in grain exports to Russia

The connections made by the companies with the Prodexpo Fair increased the grain and pulses exports to Russia by 586% in March.

Kazım Tayci, Chairman of the Board of Istanbul Cereals, Pulses, Oil Seeds and Products Exporters’ Association (IHBIR), said in his statement that the increase in the sector’s exports continued without slowing down despite all the negativities.

Stating that they are taking firm steps towards the target of $15 billion in exports at the start of the new year, Tayci noted that 6 sectors under cereals, pulses and oilseeds can easily find a market in Russia.

Reminding that they started 2023 with two big fairs such as PRODEXPO, which took place for the 30th time in Moscow in February, and Gulfood 2023 Food Fair, which took place in Dubai, Tayci said, “Especially the important connections made by all of our food companies with the PRODEXPO Fair, caused our exports to Russia to increase by 586% in March. What we said at the beginning of the year and after the fairs that passed with intense participation started to reflect on the figures.”

“We believe that the best service we can do will be realized by increasing exports”

Kazım Tayci said that the first of the most important reasons for the increase in exports is the commercial dialogue between Russia and Turkiye, and the second is the facilitation of the transition of the increased goods from the shrinking markets to other markets.

Tayci continued:

“Our next goal will be to increase our market diversity and our shelf share in the countries we enter, with fairs to be held, foreign procurement committees and sectoral visits. We believe that the best service we can do will be realized by increasing exports. We think that the more we can export and bring in foreign currency, the better we can serve our country and all our citizens damaged by the earthquake. As IHBIR, we have been continuing our aid campaigns, which we started after the earthquake disaster, since the first day. The region has not returned to normal yet, but the state and the nation will continue to heal the wounds by joining hands.”

IHBIR’s exports increased by 25.5% in the first quarter to reach $938 million

Meanwhile, IHBIR’s exports increased by 35% in March compared to the same period of the previous year and reached $371 million, and its first quarter exports increased by 25.5% to $938 million.

Turkiye-wide exports of cereals in March increased by 17.3% compared to the same period of 2022 and amounted to $1 billion 127 million. The first quarter exports of the sector increased by 7.9% compared to the same period of the previous year and reached $2 billion 944 million.

Last month, the Union exported $36 million to the USA with an increase of 57.8%, $24 million to Russia with an increase of 586% and $21.4 million to Algeria with an increase of 679%.

On the basis of goods groups, last month, sugar and sugar products were the most exported with $78.4 million, while other food preparations ranked second with $76.7 million, and pastry products ranked third with $57.7 million.
