Turkcell will invest ₺1.5 billion in fiber infrastructure in 2022

TURKCELL General Manager Murat Erkan stated that Turkey’s need for fiber infrastructure is 1-1.5 million kilometers and said, “We have invested ₺7.6 billion in infrastructure in 10 years. We are planning an investment of around ₺1.5 billion next year.” Pointing out that there are 450 thousand kilometers of fiber infrastructure in Turkey, Erkan said, “53 thousand kilometers of this was done by us. Now, is this 450 thousand kilometers of infrastructure enough for Turkey? We see that it is not enough in all detailed measurements. The place we need to go is 1 million, 1.5 million kilometers. Every part of Turkey should be competitive. We need to increase our speed.” Mentioning the issue of ‘common infrastructure’ in his statement, Erkan stated that President Recep Tayyip Erdogan showed the direction of the business on this issue and continued his words as follows: “We think that the common infrastructure is the most basic and concrete way to reach the goal of digital Turkey. Our President has already shown the direction we need to go in this regard. Our Ministry of Transport, BTK, all organizations are working on this. As far as I understand, there is a consensus on the formation of a new structure, including the wealth fund. We also support this issue. Competition should not be in fiber cable infrastructure.”
