Turkcell gained 705 thousand new customers in the first quarter of 2021

Turkcell Group announced that in the first three months of 2021, they gained ₺7.8 billion in revenue, with an increase of 17.5% compared to the same period last year.

While EBITDA reached ₺3.3 billion on a group basis, the company’s EBITDA margin was 42.2%. Turkcell’s net profit increased by 26.6% in the first quarter of 2021, reaching ₺1.1 billion. The company, which also announced that it gained 705 thousand new customers in the first quarter of the year, achieved the highest quarterly customer gain in the last 3 years. Thus, it was recorded that 70% of the target of 1 million new customers every year was reached only in the first 3 months.

Turkcell announced its financial and operational results in the first quarter of 2021. In the statement made, “Turkcell Group increased its total revenues on a consolidated basis to ₺7.8 billion with an increase of 17.5% compared to the first quarter of last year. The company’s EBITDA was realized as ₺3.3 billion, while its EBITDA margin was 42.2%.”

Turkcell’s net profit for the first quarter of 2021 increased by 26.6% and reached ₺1.1 billion. Continuing to gain customers in the first quarter of 2021, Turkcell gained 705 thousand new customers in the first three months of the year and achieved the highest performance in the last 3 years. In addition, with the decision taken at the Ordinary General Assembly meeting held on April 15, it was also approved to distribute the dividend of ₺2.6 billion, which corresponds to 61% of the distributable period profit, in three equal installments.

Turkcell General Manager Murat Erkan said, “As Turkcell, we displayed a strong performance in the first quarter of this year, despite the difficult conditions of the pandemic, with our focus on “Customer First”. As Turkcell, we always have our customers in our focus. With the customer acquisition in the first quarter of 2021, we reached the highest level in the last 3 years. We have achieved more than 70% of our 1 million new customer target for 2021 in the first 3 months of the year. Our biggest source of motivation in this strong performance has been the trust and kindness of our customers to us.”

INDIVIDUAL REVENUES INCREASED BY 28%

Regarding Turkcell’s digital service individual revenues, Erkan said, “Thanks to its growing customer base, it increased by 28% year on year to ₺367 million. The increasing awareness of Turkey’s communication and life platform BiP brought 32 million new downloads this quarter. With the number of downloads reaching 77 million, BiP became the most downloaded local application in Turkey. BiP, which does not impose and discriminate on its users regarding data usage permission, has reached 40 million active users for three months, approximately one-third of them in other countries.”

Expressing that they are pleased with the intense interest in BiP, Erkan said, “With the increasing sensitivity regarding the use of personal data recently, it has been revealed once again how valuable data is for a country. In this context, BiP has begun to be used intensively with its transparent privacy policy, secure technology and outstanding features that stand out in the competition, developed by our engineers. Thus, our people gave the best response to the digital impositions and discrimination tried to be applied to them by using BiP. Another development that made us happy in this process was that BiP attracted an intense interest not only in our country but also abroad.”

GROWTH ACCELERATES ON NON-CONTACT PAYMENT PLATFORM PAYCELL

Drawing attention to the rapid digitalization of Turkey’s payment habits, Murat Erkan said the following regarding the performance of Paycell, Turkcell’s payment platform in the tech-fin area:

“The number of active users in our digital payment platform Paycell has reached 5.3 million for three months and the mobile payment volume has reached ₺351 million, doubling the same period last year. In the same period, transactions made through Paycell Card increased four times. Paycell revenues grew 53% year-on-year this quarter, and non-group revenue growth was 81%. In the coming period, we aim to expand our Android POS service, increase the number of our member businesses and reach more customers with our new services.”

DIGITAL BUSINESS SERVICES REVENUE INCREASED BY 27%

It was reported that the revenue of Digital Business Services, which Turkcell offers new generation technologies from access to cybersecurity, cloud technologies to data centers, from managed services to the internet of things for its corporate customers, increased by 27% annually and reached ₺452 million this quarter. The company has implemented 1,589 projects since its establishment as of the end of the first quarter. The contract value (backlog) of these projects, which will turn into revenue after the first quarter of 2021, reached ₺1.1 billion. Explaining that it will diversify its digital services for corporate customers in the upcoming period, Turkcell Digital Business Services will offer new digital services to the use of companies with its B2B business model. In addition, innovative solutions will continue to be offered with BiP Meet, fizy business and lifebox business.

ELECTRICITY CONSUMPTION TO BE COVERED FROM RENEWABLE RESOURCES

According to the information provided, Turkcell also prioritized the use of renewable resources within the framework of its goal of using natural resources in the most efficient way and its business model that is environmentally sensitive and based on shaping technology according to the needs of the society. In addition, Turkcell promised that it will meet its electricity consumption from renewable sources until 2030 at the Mobile Net Zero event organized by GSMA, which brings together mobile operators around the world.
