Turkish Airlines’ Istanbul Oasis: A Luxurious Journey Through the International Business Lounge

  • Turkish Airlines’ international business lounge at Istanbul Airport is more than just a lounge.
  • The lounge offers a wide range of treats with a 24-hour service.
  • The site provides an immersive experience for guests.

Simple Flying recently had the honor of being invited by Turkish Airlines to try out the carrier’s international business lounge at Istanbul Airport (IST). We made the most of the opportunity during a short but sweet stopover in the Turkish metropolis last month.

A grand affair

Lounge is an understatement when describing the flag carrier of Turkey’s business class offering in Istanbul. It’s more of a venue in itself, with its rooftop terrace-like design in the heart of IST.

The grandeur of the location is felt even before entering, as passengers can arrive via a tall escalator that creates anticipation ahead of the big reveal. After self-scanning to enter via a boarding pass, the spaciousness of the lounge is evident right away, with the open-floor architecture and minimalist decor.

The lounge was opened in 2019, the year after the airport opened. Despite the modernism, tradition is not lost. In fact, there is a touch of culture in every corner of the lounge. It perfectly balances the diversity that Istanbul has to offer, from the piano representing the Western influence of the city to the tea station bringing the vibrant flavors of the East.

Culinary delights

The lounge is open 24 hours, and there is still a decent amount of footfall at all times due to IST’s role as a global connector. However, it does get far busier in the evening.

The more extended stint I had was in the early hours of the morning, so the chefs were making fresh omelets to order.

The eggs were nice and fluffy and were perfectly complemented with a glass of Turkish tea to help me wake up.

If black tea isn’t your thing, there is a vast range of options, including camomile, sage, linden, and jasmine green tea. The presentation is immaculate, making me feel like I’m in the middle of a bazaar, and the teapots are constantly topped up to keep the temperature optimum.

There are snacks and light bites available to pick from at all times. From sandwiches and salads to baklava and croissants, there is something for everyone.

Guests who were looking for something even more traditional enjoyed some yayık ayran, a local buttermilk recipe.

An immersive experience

The something for everyone theme transcends throughout the lounge. A majority of visitors may prefer to sit back on one of the lounge chairs and watch the news or read a book while drinking Turkish Airlines’ famous lemon-mint refresher.

Meanwhile, some of the kids (or big kids) might prefer to play video games in the Champions League exhibition.

This feature consists of classic soccer shirts of some of the Beautiful Game’s greatest legends and has the Champions League theme blaring on repeat!

Others may also like to try out other experiences, including virtual golf and a flight simulator.

There is also a play area for young children.

While I couldn’t overindulge in the lounge due to short connections, this is one of the few places where I wouldn’t mind being delayed. I would have my whole day covered on this roomy terrace, with plenty of provisions to keep me busy.

Other than international business class customers, Star Alliance Gold members (plus one guest) and Star Alliance business class passengers can visit the lounge. Moreover, Miles&Smiles Elite and Elite Plus members and Turkish Airlines Corporate Club cardholders can join and bring a guest.

So, if you fall into any of these categories and find yourself with a moment to spare while passing through IST, the Turkish Airlines International lounge will have you covered. It’s the perfect oasis in the middle of the hustle and bustle of one of the busiest airports in the world.
