Tourism revenue increased by 181% in Turkey

According to the data announced by the Turkish Statistical Institute, tourism revenues increased by 181.8% compared to the same quarter of the previous year and amounted to $11 billion 395 million 117 thousand in the third quarter of July, August and September.

Turkish Statistical Institute announced the Tourism statistics for the third quarter of 2021. In the statement made, it was stated that tourism income in the third quarter, which consists of July, August and September, increased by 181.8% compared to the same quarter of the previous year and reached $11 billion 395 million 117 thousand. Except for mobile phone roaming and marina service expenditures, 78% of this income comes from foreign visitors and 22% from Turkish citizens residing abroad.

ALL EXPENDITURES INCREASED

In addition, it was learned that during these visits, visitors generally organized their travels with personal or package tours, and $9 billion 63 million 42 thousand of the expenditures made in this quarter were personal expenditures and $2 billion 332 million 75 thousand were package tour expenditures. All types of spending increased in this quarter compared to the same quarter of last year. Accommodation spending increased by 251.3%, tour services spending by 233.4%, and spending on sports, education and culture increased by 224.6%.

AVERAGE $74 SPENT PER NIGHT

According to the data released by the Turkish Statistical Institute, the average nightly expenditure of foreigners staying overnight in this quarter was $78, while the average nightly expenditure of citizens residing abroad was $61. According to the announced data, the number of visitors departing from our country increased by 143.4% in the third quarter of 2021 compared to the same quarter of the previous year and reached 13 million 640 thousand 672 people. 84% of them were foreigners with 11 million 457 thousand 951 people, and 16% of them were citizens residing abroad with 2 million 182 thousand 721 people.

INCREASED IN THE NUMBER OF GOING ABROAD

Looking at tourism statistics, 76.8% of foreign visitors visited our country for sightseeing, entertainment, sports and cultural activities in this quarter. 15.9% visited Turkey for visiting relatives and friends, and 2.7% for business purposes because they took part in conferences, meetings and similar tasks.

Tourism expenditure, which consists of the expenditures of our citizens residing in the country and visiting other countries, increased by 363.5% compared to the same quarter of the previous year and became $584 million 379 thousand. Of this, $572 million 877 thousand were personal and $11 million 502 thousand were package tour expenses. The number of citizens visiting abroad in this quarter increased by 329.6% compared to the same quarter of the previous year and became 873 thousand 27 people. Their average expenditure per person was $669.
