The kilogram cost of honey was determined as ₺127.21

Turkiye Beekeepers Central Union (TAB) President Ziya Sahin stated that 1 kilogram of wildflower – high plateau honey for 2023 is ₺127.21.

Sahin, in his speech at the program held at the Sivas Chamber of Agriculture Conference Hall, said that they have made progress in order for consumers to eat the right honey and to bring the right honey to the consumers.

Stating that they are making an effort to bring Turkish honey to the top, Sahin said that fake honey is one of the most current problems of beekeepers.

“We can’t be detectives on the grocery store shelves”

Pointing out that the inspections on fake honey should be increased, Sahin said, “We cannot be the detectives of the market shelves, we do not have such authority. We do our part properly. We have the right to expect them to be examined one by one from our state and ministry.”

Emphasizing the need to increase support for beekeepers, Sahin said that they had difficulties in production in the face of increasing costs.

Sahin stated that the support given to agriculture, especially diesel support, should also be given to beekeepers, and said: “We have serious costs in 2023, we are going through a bad period economically. We also want to take responsibility for our state and our nation, but we want it within the framework of our costs. We do not earn big money like industrialists. We do not sell honey bought for ₺50 to the consumer for ₺250.

Every year in June, we announce the kilogram cost of honey and we send this cost to the ministry, item by item. The kilogram cost of honey, which was ₺117 and 76 kurus a month ago, has increased to ₺127 and 21 kurus. When you give the honey under this, you end the sector. I especially want our beekeepers not to give honey under ₺127.”

Suggesting the establishment of “Honey Houses” in the provinces with the support of union presidents and beekeepers, Sahin stated that the grievances of beekeepers should be eliminated.
