The world’s 3rd largest glassware Zuchex Home and Kitchenware fair opened its doors in Istanbul

The 33rd Zuchex Home and Kitchenware Fair, organized with the support of the Glassware Manufacturers Association (ZUCDER), started at Tuyap Fair and Congress Center.

At the event, which is the 3rd largest fair of its sector in the world and the 2nd largest in Europe, 1200 brands and 45 thousand people from more than 150 countries will come together.

While all 14 halls at Zuchex, with a closed area of 100 thousand square meters, were full, all of the stands to be opened in the garden of the fair were also sold out.

Cetin Tecdelioglu, Chairman of the Board of Istanbul Ferrous and Non-Ferrous Metals Exporters Association (IDDMIB), and Murat Kolbasi, Chairman of the Turkish Glassware Assembly of the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkiye (TOBB), attended the opening ceremony of the fair.

In his speech at the opening ceremony, ZUCDER President Mesut Oksuz stated that the sector will have a foreign trade surplus of $4.65 billion by importing $1.47 billion against a total export of $6.12 billion in 2022.

Oksuz stated that they make serious contributions to the Turkish economy and that their target is to achieve $7 billion of exports this year, and added:

“Although there has been a decrease in our exports as a result of the disasters we have experienced, we are showing a performance above last year in our exports. We expect a business volume of at least $2 billion with Zuchex. In our glassware and kitchenware sector, the Turkish manufacturer has reached a good point in terms of product quality and service. Today, ‘Made in Turkiye’ has become a preferred brand in many markets. Our goal is to make Turkiye one of the top 5 glassware exporting countries in the world.”

“Turkiye is the 14th supplier of the USA”

Drawing attention to getting a larger share from the US market, Oksuz said that Turkiye’s share of less than 1% in the American market, where 28 percent of the world’s glassware imports are held, makes the USA the target market.

Oksuz also emphasized that the export share of less than 1% to the world’s largest importers such as Canada, Hong Kong and Japan is an indication that emphasis should be given to these countries in exports and continued as follows:

“The USA, which ranks first in the list of world importers, is one of the countries with the furthest average distance among Turkish export markets. Exports, which gradually increased from $160 million, reached the highest value of $298 million in 2021. While the annual average change rate between 2018-2022 was 16%, the value between 2021-2022 decreased by 4%, and our exports decreased to $286.3 million. Turkiye is the 14th supplier of the USA after European competitors Italy, Germany and France.”

“Foreign trade surplus target is approximately $5 billion”

Mesut Oksuz stated that last year, 8.25% of the $6.12 billion of exports to 226 countries, with a share of $505.6 million , was made to the United Kingdom, and that Germany, Italy, France and Israel were also important export countries. He noted that China ranked first with a 49.63% share and $731.4 million in total imports of $1.4 billion from 139 countries.

Oksuz said, “Germany, Malaysia, Romania and Italy are among the countries from which we import significantly. According to TUIK data, it had a foreign trade surplus of $1.74 billion in the January-June period of 2023. The foreign trade surplus is targeted to be approximately $5 billion by the end of the year.”

Mesut Oksuz stated that the fair will contribute to their goals and said, “China, the world’s largest exporter, is also one of our target markets. We aim to expand this market with our quality products. “The fact that we took part in a separate area for Turkiye for the first time in the fair held for our sector in China during the year shows the efforts of our sector in this market.”

The fair will last until Sunday, September 17.
