Kocaeli’s Leap to Technology Base City: Mayor Büyükakın Announces 5-Year Vision with TEKNODEST Support

Kocaeli is on a fast track to becoming a technology base city, as revealed by Metropolitan Mayor Tahir Büyükakın during the TEKNODEST program. This initiative underscores the city’s commitment to fostering young talent in technology, with substantial support already making a significant impact on local tech teams.

Empowering Future Innovators

At the heart of Kocaeli’s technological revolution is the Technology Center, a hub for students passionate about engineering and technology. The center, under Rehber Genç,has become a nurturing ground for innovation, offering facilities for the creation of electric vehicles, 3D printing projects, unmanned aerial vehicles, autonomous vehicles, and robotic activities. Last year, the center provided 60 million TL in material support to two technology teams and offered 3 thousand parts printing support at the 4D Printer Center, totaling 2.7 million TL in assistance.

TEKNODEST: Showcasing Local Talent

The TEKNODEST program, organized by the Kocaeli Metropolitan Municipality, brought together 62 teams and 700 students, showcasing the technological advancements and products developed with the municipality’s support. The event saw the participation of key figures including AK Party Deputy Chairman Fatma Betül Sayan Kaya and Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Tahir Büyükakın, who emphasized the importance of technological production for national progress and the role of strong leadership in advancing technological development.

A Vision for the Future

Mayor Büyükakın’s vision for Kocaeli as a technology base city aligns with global priorities such as combating global warming and strengthening urban agriculture. The support for technology teams and the emphasis on high-tech production highlight Kocaeli’s strategy to lead in technological innovation and sustainability.
