Turkish Airlines (THY) became the first international airline company to fly directly to the city of Turkistan, known as the spiritual capital of the Turkic world, in the south of Kazakhstan. Turkey’s Ambassador to Nur Sultan Ufuk Ekici said, “An airline connection has been established between Istanbul and Turkistan. I hope that the relations between Turkistan and our country will further increase by advancing this route.”
According to the statement made by the Kazakhstan Civil Aviation Committee, THY’s first Istanbul-Turkistan flight was welcomed at Turkistan International Airport with a show of “water arches”.
The ceremony held at the airport was attended by Turkey’s Ambassador to Nur Sultan Ufuk Ekici, as well as Kazakhstani officials and many press members.
Speaking to Anadolu Agency (AA) after the ceremony, Ambassador Ekici stated that they witnessed a historical event today and said, “We made the first flight of Turkish Airlines to Turkistan, which is the pride of our country.”
Drawing attention to the fact that THY was the first international airline company to fly directly to Turkistan, Ekici said, “An airline connection has been established between Istanbul and Turkistan. I hope this route will advance and the relations between Turkestan and our country will further increase.”
THY will increase the Istanbul-Turkestan-Istanbul flight with B-737 type aircraft once a week in the first stage and then gradually to 2 in a week.
