Turkish stocks, gold & currency updates beginning of the week

Turkey’s benchmark stock index ended Monday down 0.27% to close at 1,121.17 points.

After starting the week at 1,124.93 points, Borsa Istanbul’s BIST 100 index fell 3.00 points from 1,124.17 points at Friday’s close.

On Monday, the BIST 100 hovered between 1,116.34 and 1,130.68 points — 41 stocks on the index rose and 59 fell compared to the previous close.

Closing the day with a market value of some 828.8 billion Turkish liras ($109.7 billion), the benchmark index posted a daily trading volume of 19.8 billion Turkish liras ($2.6 billion).

Shares of steel glass manufacturer Sise Cam, private lender Garanti BBVA and defense electronics firm Aselsan saw the highest trading volumes.

Stocks of Celebi Hava Servisi, which provides integrated ground services at airports, posted the best performance, rising 9.95%, while shares of Turkish Industrial Development Bank suffered the most, losing 2.68%.

One ounce of gold sold for $1,864.75 by market close, up from $1.863.60, according to data from Borsa Istanbul’s Precious Metals and Diamond Markets.

The price of Brent oil was around $42.48 per barrel as of 6 p.m. local time (1500GMT) on Monday, with a day range of $41.95 to $42.87.
