The weekend Marmaray services have been extended until 1.30

The Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure announced that the weekend services on Marmaray will be extended until 01.30 as of August 26.

In the statement made by the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, it was reminded that the Gebze-Halkali route was operated between 06.00 and 23.00, and it was stated that the weekend Marmaray services were extended until 01.30, as of 26 August, upon the high demand.

The statement made by the ministry included the following statements:

“On the nights connecting Friday to Saturday and connecting Saturday to Sunday in Marmaray, the last time from Gebze to Halkali is 01.20, and the last time from Halkali to Gebze is 01.28 with an interval of 30 minutes. The last train departing from Gebze will arrive at 03.08, and the last train departing from Halkali will arrive at the arrival station at 03.16. There are a total of 287 trips on Marmaray, including 150 trains between Pendik and Atakoy and 137 trains between Halkali and Gebze. The number of services will increase to 297 on weekends with an additional 10 services at night. On the other hand, with the Halkali-Bahcesehir suburban trains put into service on May 23, 2022, it is possible to transfer to Halkali station, which is the last stop of Marmaray.”

SERVED MORE THAN 747 MILLION PASSENGERS

In the statement, it was stated that the travel time on the 76 kilometers long Marmaray, which has 43 stations, and the Gebze-Halkali line, decreased to 108 minutes, and it was recorded that the number of passengers in Marmaray, which serves an average of 492 thousand passengers per day, reached up to 648,000 on some days.

Emphasizing that more than 747 million passengers were served in Marmaray until August 24, 2022, the following statements were used in the statement:

“It is aimed to transport approximately 157 million passengers with Marmaray in 2022. Marmaray not only supports the urban transportation of Istanbul, but also enables the passengers using the high-speed train to travel to the European side by providing uninterrupted transportation between the continents of Asia and Europe. As an important pillar of the ‘One Belt One Road’ project, Project of the Century Marmaray ensures uninterrupted freight transport, eliminating seaway transfers and saving time and money. While 2 thousand 90 freight trains have passed through the Marmaray Bosphorus Tube Crossing, 1096 of these trains have passed to the European direction and 994 to the Asian direction.”
