The number of tourists coming to Istanbul increased by 45.85%

Istanbul Governor Ali Yerlikaya made evaluations about tourism in Istanbul at the meeting where he met with representatives of the tourism sector. During the meeting, the number of tourists coming to Istanbul increased by 44.85% compared to the same month of the previous year and reached 545 thousand 608.

Istanbul Governor Ali Yerlikaya, Deputy Governor Ozlem Bozkurt Gevrek, General Director of Promotion of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism Timucin Guler, Provincial Director of Culture and Tourism Dr. Coskun Yilmaz, TUGEV Deputy Chairman Bahadir Yasik, TUROB President Muberra Eresin, IGA CEO Kadri Samsunlu attended to the meeting held at the Governorship of Istanbul.

Governor Yerlikaya, in his assessment at the meeting, stated that Istanbul, the 14th largest metropolis in the world, has a great tourism potential and said, “Our Istanbul is one of the biggest tourism centers of the world in both historical and cultural terms. The latest statistical data point out that the number of foreign tourists coming to Istanbul will increase compared to last year.”

Sharing Istanbul’s March 2021 data, Governor Yerlikaya said, “The number of foreign tourists coming to Istanbul in March 2021 increased by 45.85% compared to the same month of the previous year and reached 545,608. Russia ranked first among foreign tourists visiting Istanbul with 87,485, Iran 56,108 and Germany ranked in the top three with 42,494 tourists.”

The meeting was concluded after Governor Yerlikaya’s consultations with representatives of the tourism industry.
