The last steel rope was installed in the construction of the 1915 Canakkale Bridge

AK Party Group Deputy Chairman Bulent Turan said that the last steel rope was placed on the 1915 Canakkale Bridge, which is under construction, and that the decks will be replaced after the main rope assembly is completed.

Following the last steel rope assembly works between the Lapseki and Gelibolu approach viaducts and the towers, which form the side openings of the structure, which will be the world’s largest middle-span bridge when completed, Turan received information from the authorities.

Speaking to journalists after the visit, Turan stated that this bridge has a very important place for the country.

Stating that the bridge will fulfill many functions, Turan continued as follows:

“Put aside the excitement of our Republic period, even in the last period of the Ottoman Empire, there are projects and studies to build a bridge or tunnel in this region. In other words, the dream of several centuries, not 100 years, is the subject of these lands. This is the place that connects Asia and Europe, just as it was in Troy with our nation in history.

“5 thousand years ago, Troy saw the connection between Asia and Europe. Today, these bridges will connect Asia and Europe. This bridge will be a door that will both reduce the problems between Europe and increase communication with us. We don’t see this bridge just as a transportation hub. Let alone agriculture, tourism, our ambulance and the fact that our patient did not leave the ship on his way to Istanbul is the reason why this bridge was built.”

“THE LONGEST BRIDGE IN THE WORLD WILL BE THE CANAKKALE BRIDGE”

Bulent Turan stated that currently the longest suspension bridge in Turkey is Osmangazi at 1550 meters.

Stating that the longest of the bridges will be the 1915 Canakkale Bridge when its construction is completed, Turan said:

“At the moment, it is the longest bridge in the world with a span of 1991 meters in Akashi, Japan. When this bridge is finished, it will be the longest bridge in the world, the Canakkale bridge, with a middle span of 2023 meters. Today we are witnessing the tying of the last wire rope, that is, the last one of 288. After the main rope assembly is finished, the assembly of the decks begins. Deck blocks have also arrived at the construction site in Gelibolu Sutluce. We are witnessing the growth of our country despite the pandemic conditions and international crises.”
