The first voice call took place in domestic and national 5G

The first voice call took place over the 5G infrastructure developed with domestic resources in Turkey. Adil Karaismailoglu, Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, stating that within the scope of the End-to-End Domestic and National 5G Communication Network Project, they have passed an important threshold in the development of the core network, base station, 5G-specific management, service and operational software products, which are critical for 5G infrastructures, with domestic and national effort and sweat, said, “In an environment where competition in our industry is so intense, we need to aim for a time-oriented success and commercialize our products in the next 1-1,5 years.”

Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Adil Karaismailoglu, in his speech at the Closing Meeting of the 7th Executive Board and First Phase of the End-to-End Domestic and National 5G Project, where 5G domestic products will be promoted, said that the transportation and communication sectors are at the center of life socially and economically, that the change in these two sectors affects all sectors and paves the way for the emergence of new business and new life models.

“WE ALWAYS PRIORATE LOCAL AND NATIONAL APPROACHES”

Karaismailoglu stated that while Turkey has made very important breakthroughs in the last 19 years on the way to national economic independence, it continues to receive the results of this approach in the field of technology. “As the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, we always prioritize domestic and national approaches in the field of informatics, communication and communication, as in all transportation modes.”

Pointing out that they have signed important projects that will raise the standard of living of the citizens, Karaismailoglu said, “Among these projects, 5G stands out because of the tremendous speed it will bring to our lives.” Pointing out that there are more than 7 billion mobile phone subscriptions in the world by the end of 2020, Karaismailoglu stated that mobile internet subscription exceeded 75% of the world’s population. Karaismailoglu stated that they predict that by 2025, 20% of global connections will be made up of 5G technologies.

“WE WILL NEED 25 TIMES MORE FREQUENCY AND 2000 TIMES MORE BASE STATIONS”

Karaismailoglu noted that mobile network operators all over the world are expected to invest more than $1.1 trillion in their networks in the next five years and that approximately 80% of this investment is expected to be in 5G technology. “It is estimated that by 2025, there will be 100 billion different connections in the world and only 10% of these connections will be made up of people. In the near future, it is estimated that the data to be circulated per square kilometer will increase 16 times approximately every 4 years. To meet this demand, we will need 25 times more frequencies and 2000 times more base stations than the previous generation.”

He pointed out that with the development of Turkey in every field, citizens now benefit more from the possibilities of technology, “Today, whether you go to Edirne or Kars, you will see that everyone from 7 to 77 uses 4.5G technology. As of the end of 2020, our total internet subscriptions reached 82.4 million, approximately 66 million of which are mobile internet. In our country, the number of machines connected via mobile networks, that is, the number of communication subscribers between machines, is over 6.5 million. Infrastructure investment, which reached ₺16.7 billion in 2020, increased by approximately 30% compared to the previous year.”

“5G WILL INCREASE INTERNET SPEED UP TO 100 TIMES”

Minister Karaismailoglu pointed out that the pandemic process in the world has actually positively affected the need for information and communication and the speed of development in the sector according to this need, and emphasized that they have achieved a growth of 15.6% in the IT sector in 2020.

The electronic communication sector will almost jump in size in the current voice, data and image transmission. 5G technology will accelerate developments and innovations in areas such as the internet of things, artificial intelligence, machine-to-machine communication (M2M), machine learning. With 5G, which has a more effective and powerful cybersecurity system, data analytics will gain more importance, and the importance of coding and design will increase. With its almost instant communication capability, brand new business opportunities such as autonomous vehicles and remote surgery will be created.”

Karaismailoglu underlined that 5G and beyond technologies have not converged very much before communication technologies and therefore will almost reshape the industries called “vertical sectors”, and said that 5G networks will be effective in the virtualization of media and social activities, especially in industry, health services, remote instantaneous intervention.

Explaining that life will change radically with technologies expressed as virtual reality, Karaismailoglu said, “New technologies such as autonomous systems, artificial intelligence and blockchain will find more and more use in our lives with 5G.”

Karaismailoglu pointed out that these developments show that information and communication technologies will be at the center of life in the coming years and continued as follows:

“In order to achieve our 2023, 2053, 2071 goals, we must produce high technology-based, high value-added products. We have exhibited a good example of public-private cooperation with the coming together of our companies. Despite all the negative conditions of the pandemic, we worked day and night on the road to 5G for the goals of our country, and we continue to do so. As public administrators, we find it very important for us to consult with the private sector and non-governmental organizations when making decisions, in terms of developing the right public policies and strategies. We see the End-to-End Domestic and National 5G Project as an important example of this unity. I believe that we will work with the same understanding and sensitivity in future processes with this collaborative work achievement.
