Turkiye is among the top 10 countries in the world in terms of accreditation

In the Global Quality Infrastructure Index (GQII) report announced by the International Accreditation Forum (IAF), Turkiye ranked 10th among 184 countries in the field of accreditation, rising 7 places compared to the previous year.

According to the written statement made by the Turkish Accreditation Agency (TURKAK) to Anadolu Agency (AA), in the 2021 report of the Global Quality Infrastructure Index, which is announced every year by determining the basic indicators and compiling the data in coordination with the representatives and experts of the quality infrastructure organizations around the world, Turkiye has risen 7 places and ranked 10th in the field of accreditation.

In the general ranking, where all fields of metrology, standardization and accreditation are evaluated, Turkiye ranked 16th in the world.

In the report, which includes a special assessment of Turkiye’s rise, the highest rise among the top 25 countries, Turkiye and Switzerland, which rose 5 places in the general quality infrastructure ranking, were noted.

In the report, it was stated that in contrast to the decline in the overall scoring of the quality infrastructure of other countries, France, Germany, China, Montenegro and Estonia, as well as Turkiye, were one of the 6 countries that showed an increase.

Turkiye’s rise in accreditation came to the fore in the Global Quality Infrastructure Index, which analyzes the data of 184 countries on quality infrastructure and is a pioneering report on measuring the development status and dynamics of quality infrastructure worldwide.

TURKAK Secretary General Banu Muderrisoglu stated that she is very pleased and proud of this result achieved in the field of accreditation, which is one of the most important building blocks of quality infrastructure in Turkiye.

Muderrisoglu stated that since the day he took office, they have followed a management approach based on law and international standards, transparent, accountable, ethical principles and equal treatment to all parties, and that they aim to increase the quality of service provided within this framework day by day.

Emphasizing that the corporate structuring and all business processes were redesigned with this understanding, Muderrisoglu underlined that the result obtained is the most important indicator of this understanding transformation.

Muderrisoglu said, “In line with our President’s (Recep Tayyip Erdoğan) goal of raising Turkiye among the top 10 economies of the world, TURKAK, which has been increasing its performance day by day in matters falling under its mandate, operates as the relevant institution of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.”

Muderrisoglu underlined that thanks to this success achieved with the close support of Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu, the international trust in the accreditation services offered by TURKAK and the recognition of these services have increased. She noted that TURKAK has an important role and contribution in removing technical barriers to Turkiye’s foreign trade, in the process of integration with the EU and in increasing the competitiveness of the Turkish economy.

About the Global Quality Infrastructure Index report

In the Global Quality Infrastructure Index 2021 report, an evaluation was made in the field of accreditation based on the data published by 107 accreditation institutions.

While 90 of the 107 accreditation bodies forwarded their data directly to the Global Quality Infrastructure Index team, the data obtained was verified via digital platforms.

In the evaluation made in the field of accreditation, the number of accredited institutions within the scope of IAF MLA and ILAC MRA, as well as the regional and international MLA and MRA agreements of the countries were taken into account.

The Global Quality Infrastructure Index report was first published in 2021 to include 2020 results.

TURKAK was established in 1999, headquartered in Ankara, in order to accredit conformity assessment bodies, to ensure that these bodies operate in accordance with national and international standards, and thereby ensure the national and international acceptance of the documents issued by conformity assessment bodies.

TURKAK, operating as the relevant institution of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has important duties such as “providing accreditation services in the field of conformity assessment nationally and internationally in a recognized and reliable manner, raising awareness of accreditation in the society and taking an active role in the determination of international accreditation rules”.
