Turkiye generated over $1.8 billion in revenue from hazelnuts

Black Sea Hazelnut and Products Exporters Association (KFMIB) Chairman Hasan Osman Sabir announced that Turkiye will generate over $1 billion 864 million in revenue from hazelnut exports in 2023.

Hasan Osman Sabir, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Black Sea Hazelnut and Products Exporters Association (KFMIB), stated in his written statement that 283 thousand 519 tons of hazelnuts were exported to 121 countries in 2023, and an income of $1 billion 864 million 551 thousand 43 was obtained in return.

Sabir emphasized that last year, there was a 9.29% decrease in quantity and a 6.62% increase in value compared to 2022.

Sabır pointed out that in the September-December period, which covers the first 4 months of the 2023-2024 export season, hazelnut exports amounted to $811 million 527 thousand 925 in return for 115 thousand 528 tons. “In this process, there was a decrease of 11.16% in terms of quantity compared to the last season, but an increase of 9.82% in terms of value.”

Sabir underlined that all stakeholders in the hazelnut sector should work together and made the following assessment:

“We aim to increase competitiveness in world markets with a long-term projection and strategy. In order for Turkish hazelnuts not to suffer losses in international markets and to maintain their leading position in production, an increase in yield is necessary, and we expect long-term support from the relevant institutions of the state in this regard. We brought our members together with new buyers through trade and purchasing delegation organizations. In addition to participating in international fairs, we enabled our members to open a stand at an important food fair in China within the framework of our association’s UR-GE project. We also continue activities such as launching a joint promotional project for India. We will continue to undertake important projects.”

Reminding that they have been working on the fight against the agricultural pest brown skunk since 2018, Sabır added that an integrated fight strategy should be followed.
