Turkiye: Most of the pickle exports came from the Aegean Region

77% of the $260 million pickle export in the 9-month period of this year was made from the Aegean Region.

According to the statement made by the Aegean Exporters’ Association, pickle exports increased by 14% in the January-September period compared to last year.

With its export performance of $260 million, pickles became the leading product group in Turkiye’s $1 billion 700 million fruit and vegetable exports.

Hayrettin Ucak, President of the Aegean Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Exporters Association, whose views were included in the statement, stated that Turkish pickles produced in modern facilities are in demand from all over the world.

Emphasizing that the number of countries to which pickles are exported has increased to 136, Ucak said, “We earned $340 million of foreign exchange from pickle exports in 2022. In the January-September period of this year, $260 million of exports were achieved. We expect $400 million of foreign currency this year. Additionally, we will continue our efforts to increase the Aegean Region’s pickle exports to $300 million. We aim to increase our pickle exports to over $500 million in 2024. As the Aegean Region, we realize 77% of Turkiye’s pickle exports.”

The most demand is for pickled peppers and gherkins

In the January-September period, pickled peppers ranked first in Turkiye’s pickle exports with an amount of $118 million 200 thousand. Foreign exchange income of $109 million 287 thousand was obtained from the export of gherkin pickles, one of the most preferred types of pickles. Turkiye earned $32 million from the export of pickles made from other vegetables.

Again in this period, Germany ranked first with a demand of $70 million for Turkish pickles, while the Netherlands became the top partner with a demand of $47 million.
