The Metrans’ service connecting the Halkali, west of Istanbul, to Dunajska Streda, in Slovakia, is getting to extra stops: Belgrade and Budapest. The new initiative, the company said, comes as a response to the increased demand for rail freight services along this corridor.

Test trains started running on 19 February, but the connection was officialised in March. Other than its two initial main destinations, the Metrans’ terminals in Belgrade-Indija (Serbia) and Budapest Csepel (Hungary) will now be served as well. Metrans launched the Halkali-Dunajska Streda service in September 2022 in cooperation with Turkish logistics provider Omsan Logistics.

The Halkali-Dunajska Streda service will be operated once a week. Concerning the Belgrade-Indija terminal, it will be connected to Turkiye twice a week. To this end, Metrans recently finalised the acquisition of AdriaRail Group, the company managing the Serbian terminal. There will be one roundtrip between the Budapest Csepel terminal and Halkali. The service is suitable for all sorts of containers, inclunding special equipment, such as tank containers of all sizes. As additional support,Metrans makes available its fleet of 45′ containers too.
