Turkish Automotive Sales Decline by 22.3% in April Compared to Last Year

Automotive sales across Turkiye decreased by 22.3% in April compared to the same period of 2023, reaching 75 thousand 919 units.

According to April data of the Automotive Distributors and Mobility Association (ODMD), 75 thousand 919 cars and light commercial vehicles were sold across the country last month.

In April, automobile sales decreased by 20.61% compared to the same period of 2023, falling to 61 thousand 448 units, while the light commercial vehicle market decreased by 28.6% to 14 thousand 471 units. The automobile and light commercial vehicle market increased by 16.2% compared to the 10-year average sales in April.

11.3% increase in January-April period

The total market of automobiles and light commercial vehicles increased by 11.3% on an annual basis in the January-April period, reaching 371 thousand 438 units.

In the said period, automobile sales increased by 16.62% to 294 thousand 837 units, and the light commercial vehicle market decreased by 5.2% to 76 thousand 601 units.

When examined by segment in the first 4 months of the year, 88.2% of the market was made up of vehicles in segments A, B and C, which have low tax rates. C segment cars took a 57.6% share with 169 thousand 720 units, and B segment cars took a 30.1% share with 88 thousand 721 units.

SUV cars were most preferred body types

When evaluated according to body types, the most preferred body type was SUV cars with a share of 54.1% and 159 thousand 598 units. It was followed by sedans with a 26.8% share and 78 thousand 923 units, and H/B cars with a 17.4% share and 51 thousand 249 sales.

Of the cars sold in the January-April period, 65.4% were gasoline vehicles, 14.9% were hybrid, 11.1% were diesel, 7.8% were electric and 0.8% were autogas vehicles.

It was observed that 76.6% of automobile sales consisted of vehicles under 1600cc. Cars with automatic transmission had a share of 89.6% of sales, and those with manual transmission had a share of 10.4%.

When the light commercial vehicle market was evaluated according to body type in the January-April period, van body type vehicles ranked first with a share of 70.8%, while pickup truck body type ranked second with a share of 14.8%.
