Rabbit’s R1: A New Era in Virtual Assistance Unveiled at CES 2024

At CES 2024, Rabbit, a promising startup, unveiled its innovative product, the R1, aiming to revolutionize the world of virtual assistance. The R1 is a unique, orange, compact square gadget equipped with a 2.88-inch touchscreen, an analog scroll wheel, two microphones, a speaker, and a 360-degree rotational camera for added privacy.

R1: An AI Assistant with a Twist

Unlike typical virtual assistants, the R1 operates on Rabbit OS, utilizing the Large Action Model (LAM) to execute tasks. This approach allows the device to interact with user interfaces, similar to a macro, bypassing the need for individual APIs or apps. The AI assistant learns and replicates tasks based on user interaction, offering a more personalized and efficient user experience. The R1’s primary mode of interaction is via a Push-to-Talk button, further streamlining the user-command process.

Unleashing the Potential of the R1

From booking a ride on Uber to suggesting recipes based on what’s in your fridge, the R1 is designed to handle a plethora of tasks. Jesse Lyu, the founder and CEO of Rabbit, demonstrated the R1’s learning capabilities, using the device to generate images via Discord using Midjourney. However, the device’s true potential and ease-of-use for the average consumer remain to be tested in real-world applications.

Price and Availability

The R1 is priced at $199 and is currently available for preorder. Shipments are expected to start rolling out in March or April. Although Rabbit claims an ‘all-day’ battery life for the R1,the specifics of this claim are yet to be clarified.

As the world eagerly anticipates the arrival of this new-age AI assistant, it remains to be seen whether the R1 will live up to its hype and transform the virtual assistance landscape as Rabbit intends.
