Eastern Black Sea Region Records a 37% Increase in Fishery Exports for the First Quarter

According to data compiled from the Eastern Black Sea Exporters’ Association (DKİB) by an AA correspondent, fishery exports from the Eastern Black Sea region gained prominence, reaching 21 countries in the first three months of the year.

Fishery exports from the region, which were recorded at $26,235,141 in January-March 2023, increased by 37% to reach $35,972,196 in the same period this year.

In terms of quantity, exports, which were 3,962 tons in the first quarter of last year, increased by 82% to 7,229 tons in the same period this year.

Most fishery products were sold to the Russian Federation Demand for fishery products mainly came from the Russian Federation, Vietnam, and Japan.

In the January-March period of this year, 4,466 tons of fishery products were exported from the Eastern Black Sea to the Russian Federation, earning $21,490,588.

Vietnam followed with $7,624,357, and Japan with $3,214,678.

In addition to the first three months of last year, fishery products were also exported to Denmark, Ukraine, Egypt, Italy, the United Arab Emirates, the Philippines, Spain, Kenya, the TRNC, and Thailand.

“We strive to increase our share from new markets” DKİB Chairman of the Board Saffet Kalyoncu stated to an AA correspondent that significant success has been achieved in fishery exports from the region in recent years, both in terms of fish and processed products.

Emphasizing that exports and country diversity are increasing day by day, Kalyoncu stated that although the Russian Federation stands out as the sector’s most important market, exports to countries such as Japan, Peru, Vietnam, and Thailand have also increased in recent years.

Kalyoncu underscored the importance they place on promotional and export potential-enhancing efforts, expressing their anticipation that the increase in fishery exports will continue in the coming period.

Especially highlighting the advantages brought by the increasing preference for fish meat due to the development of healthy eating trends worldwide, Kalyoncu added that they are striving to gain more share from new markets within this scope.
