Wedding Costs Soar in Turkiye: Newlyweds Facing ₺500 Thousand Price Tag During Economic Challenges

Bendevi Palandoken, Chairman of the Confederation of Turkish Tradesmen and Craftsmen (TESK), noted that the cost of an average wedding starts from ₺500 thousand, and that there are serious price increases in all products and services due to the increase in exchange rates and high inflation.

In his written statement, Bendevi Palandoken, Chairman of the Confederation of Turkish Tradesmen and Craftsmen (TESK), stated that the expenses made by couples who will start a family affect many tradesmen, especially furniture makers, white goods manufacturers, jewelers and textile manufacturers.

Stating that approximately 565 thousand couples got married last year, Palandoken said, “It is predicted that approximately 600 thousand couples will get married this year, despite the increasing population. Our tradesmen in dozens of different sectors such as photographers, hairdressers, barbers, bridal shops, florists, cake makers, dowry sellers are ready for the wedding season. With the weddings to be held this year, marriages are expected to create an economy of ₺500 billion.”

Palandoken noted that the cost of an average wedding starts from ₺500 thousand, and that there are serious price increases for all products and services due to the increase in exchange rates and high inflation.

Pointing out that the government is doing its best to encourage young people into marriage, Palandöken said, “There are some incentives and supports. However, it is very important to provide opportunities for all couples to benefit from zero-interest support loans. This will be very important both in terms of contributing to the wedding expenses of the couples and in terms of their contribution to the economy with the homes they will establish.”
