SunExpress: We will do our part to help Turkey reach its target of 42 million tourists

Max Kownatzki, General Manager of SunExpress, a joint venture of Turkish Airlines and Lufthansa, stated that travel demand will continue to strengthen as the summer season approaches, and that they will do their part to help Turkey reach its target of 42 million tourists this year.

Speaking at the annual evaluation meeting held at Istanbul Airport with Deputy General Manager Ahmet Caliskan, Kownatzki stated that despite the negative effects of the epidemic on the aviation sector, they completed the year with 6 million passengers and a profit of €59 million. He said that the ‘Safe Tourism Certification Program’ initiated by Turkey during the epidemic process was very effective in these successes. Noting that they will do their part to help Turkey reach its target of 42 million tourists this year, Kownatzki underlined that they will reach the widest flight network between Turkey and Europe in their history with 25 new routes and an additional 16,250 flights in total in the summer season this year.

5 NEW POINTS IN THE UNITED KINGDOM

Kownatzki stated that in addition to their flights to Luton Airport in London, the capital of England, they will fly to five new destinations in the UK for the first time this year. Kownatzki said, “Antalya, Izmir, Dalaman and Bodrum-Milas are our four main airports on the Turkish Riviera that we focus on. Travel demand continues to strengthen as the summer season approaches. In 2022, we aim to exceed the pre-pandemic levels in our flights to these coastal cities and increase our capacity even more compared to 2019. In addition to the capacity increase, we will offer more connections to these cities with new international destinations.”

WE WILL DO OUR PART

Expressing that they will offer direct scheduled flights from 14 Anatolian cities to 18 European cities this year, with 1,250 more flights compared to last year, Kownatzki said, “The increase in our capacity and number of flights, the expansion in our flight network and fleet, and our newly added destinations and connections are a reflection of our confidence in the strong recovery of Turkish tourism. In 2022, we will do our part to support Turkey to reach its tourism goals with more capacity increase than ever before. As SunExpress, we will continue to play the role of Turkey’s tourism ambassador and to be a reliable airline partner for Turkish tourism.”
