Renewable energy accounted for 99.5% of the increase in electricity installed capacity in 2023 in Turkiye

Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar stated that 99.5% of the installed capacity increase in electricity last year was provided by renewable energy sources.

In his written statement, Minister Bayraktar stated that there was an additional renewable installed capacity increase of 2 thousand 845 megawatts in electricity last year.

Pointing out that renewable energy is the biggest supporter of the energy transformation in line with the 2053 carbon zero targets, Bayraktar said, “2023 has been the year of renewables. We provided 99.5% of the installed power increase of 2 thousand 858 megawatts last year from renewable sources. Thus, we increased our renewable energy installed capacity to 59 thousand 236 megawatts.”

Bayraktar pointed out that 326.3 terawatts of electricity was produced last year and said, “The share of renewable resources in production was 42%. On the other hand, their share in installed power was 56%. Our goal is to increase the share of renewable energy in installed capacity to 65% and its share in production to 55% in 2035.”
