Turkiye’s budget deficit falls to $5B in January

Budget revenues total $20.5B, expenditures $25.5B, official data shows

Türkiye’s central government budget posted a deficit of 150.7 billion liras ($5 billion) in January, according to data released by the Treasury and Finance Ministry on Thursday.

The deficit shrank from 842.5 billion liras ($28.9 billion) in the prior month, while it shifted from a surplus of 30 billion liras ($2.2 billion) in January 2023, the data showed.

Türkiye’s budget revenues stood at 617.3 billion liras ($20.5 billion), while expenditures totaled to 768 billion liras ($25.5 billion) last month.

Non-interest expenditures were at 646.9 billion liras ($21.5 billion) and interest payments amounted to 121.1 billion liras ($4 billion) in January.

One US dollar traded for 30.0805 Turkish liras on average last month.
