Turkiye liberalized land transportation with Ukraine and extended it until the end of 2024

Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloglu emphasized that Turkiye has fulfilled its duty in terms of land transportation between Turkiye and Ukraine and said, “We are doing exactly what we need to do in road transportation and we have completely liberalized it and extended it until the end of 2024.”

Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloglu, together with Minister of Trade Prof. Dr. Omer Bolat, attended the ‘Reconstruction of Ukraine Forum’ held at the Hilton Maslak Hotel in Istanbul.

Before the forum, Uraloglu met with Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Communities and Regions Infrastructure Development Oleksandr Kubrakov and his accompanying delegation.

During the meeting between the two delegations, the construction process of Ukraine, possible cooperation opportunities between the two countries and infrastructure projects in which Turkish companies will take an active part were discussed.

“WE EXTENDED IT UNTIL THE END OF 2024”

During the meeting, Minister Uraloglu expressed his sadness about the war between Russia and Ukraine and said, “The integrity and security of Ukraine is absolutely very important to us, and our President showed a very clear will at that point. I hope peace will be established there soon. The integrity of Ukraine is ensured. And we will do better with better relations, but we strive to be at the best point under the current conditions.”

Minister Uraloglu emphasized that Turkiye has fulfilled its duty in terms of land transportation between Turkiye and Ukraine and said, “In road transportation, we are really doing whatever we need to do there and we have completely liberalized it and extended it until the end of 2024.”

Referring to the grain corridor agreement, Uraloglu said, “To your knowledge, there are still 12 stranded ships in Ukraine. We could not get them out, and your support in that regard will be valuable.”

“TURKIYE IS AMONG THE TOP 5 COUNTRIES

Minister Uraloglu reminded that Turkiye was among the top 5 countries that supported the International Maritime Organization’s (IMO) call for an emergency meeting due to the Russia-Ukraine war.

Referring to Ukraine’s discomfort with the ships coming to Turkiye from the Crimea region, Uraloglu said, “Since the ships leaving there have turned off the automatic recognition system, we may not know exactly where they come from. I want you to know that when we make the findings, we also impose sanctions such as sending them back and imposing heavy penalties.”

Ukrainian Minister of Communities, Regions and Infrastructure Development Oleksandr Kubrakov thanked Minister Uraloglu for his hospitality and invited him to Ukraine as soon as possible.
