Turkiye’s crude steel production decreased by 10.3% in May

Turkiye’s crude steel production was 2.9 million tons in May with a decrease of 10.3% compared to the same month of the previous year.

Turkish Steel Producers Association (TCUD) announced Turkiye’s crude steel production, consumption and foreign trade data for May.

Accordingly, crude steel production decreased by 10.3% in May compared to the same month of the previous year and became 2.9 million tons. In the January-May period, production decreased by 19.1% to 13 million tons.

In this period, final product consumption increased by 2.6% compared to the same month of 2022 to 4 million tons, and increased by 13.7% in the January-May period to 16.5 million tons.

In May, exports of steel products were recorded as 778 thousand 700 tons with a decrease of 36.1% in terms of quantity, and $684.1 million with a decrease of 47.4% in terms of value.

In the January-May period, compared to the same period of the previous year, exports decreased by 47.7% to 3.6 million tons, and decreased by 52.6% to $3.1 billion in value.

Compared to the same month of the previous year, imports in May were 2.1 million tons with an increase of 85.6% in terms of quantity and $1.8 billion in value, with an increase of 37%. In the January-May period, compared to the same period of 2022, imports amounted to 8 million tons with an increase of 25.2% in amount and $6.8 billion with a decrease of 3.2% in value.

The ratio of exports to imports, which was 95% in the first 5 months of last year, decreased to 46.5% in the first 5 months of this year.
