Turkiye will become a center in international natural gas distribution

Fatih Donmez, Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, said, “We have been working on becoming a gas hub for a long time. Our teams on the subject are about to complete their work. We will clarify our roadmap by the end of the year.”

Answering the questions of the journalists after the Cabinet Meeting, Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Fatih Donmez stated that the efforts to make Turkiye an international natural gas distribution center are continuing.

Minister Donmez said;

We have been working on becoming a gas center for a long time. As a matter of fact, our 7 pipelines, 5 LNG facilities, 3 of which are FSRU, and 2 underground natural gas storage facilities are the indicators of these efforts.

Our relevant teams are about to complete their work. We will clarify our roadmap by the end of the year.

The important thing here is to consider the buyer and the seller together. As seen in previous projects, Turkiye is a key country.

Is cooperation with Russia also possible in crude oil?

Refineries trade crude oil in Turkiye. For example, there is TUPRAS in the private sector, there is the Star Refinery. TUPRAS has 4 refineries. They also supply from places suitable for their technical specifications and commercial conditions. It is usually done with a contract one year in advance. In other words, the spot purchases of these institutions are not very high. How their buying strategies will be as they enter the new year is another matter. Each refinery plans how much it will consume this year, from which source, months in advance, and makes a purchase agreement.
