Automotive Industry Starts the New Year with a Record

According to the statement from the Uludağ Automotive Industry Exporters’ Association (OİB), Turkey’s automotive industry achieved its highest January export with $2.779 billion, showing a 2.5% increase compared to the same month last year.

The sector, which holds the top position in Turkey’s exports, accounted for 16.2% among various industries.

In January, the highest external sales, with a 3% increase compared to the same month last year, amounted to $1.171 billion in the “supply industry” product group.

Exports of “passenger cars” decreased by 13% to $772.898 million, exports of “motor vehicles for transporting goods” increased by 27% to $504.667 million, exports of “buses-minibuses-midibuses” increased by 61% to $160.712 million, and exports of “tractors” decreased by 10% to $139.897 million.

Germany Remains the Largest Market

The largest market by country was Germany with $417 million in exports. The United Kingdom followed as the second-largest market with $333 million in exports, showing an 11% increase compared to the previous year. France, the third-largest market, experienced a 4% decrease in exports, amounting to $272 million.

Last month, significant export increases were recorded for Italy (31%), Slovenia (19%), Romania (19%), Morocco (39%), Portugal (41%), and Algeria (424%).

1% Increase in Exports to EU Countries in January

In January, European Union countries held the top spot with a 67.5% share and $1.877 billion in exports. Exports to EU countries increased by 1%. There was a 12% increase in exports to “Other European Countries” and a 35% increase in exports to “African Countries.”

Baran Çelik, Chairman of the Board of Directors of OİB, commented on the figures, stating, “We reached the highest January export in the history of the sector at the beginning of the year. Exports of motor vehicles for transporting goods and buses, minibuses, and midibuses increased by double digits. We recorded high-rate increases in Italy, Slovenia, and Romania.”
