Net group profit of ₺48.7 billion from Yapi Kredi in the 9 months of the year

Yapi Kredi CEO Gokhan Erun said, “As Yapi Kredi, we will continue to work and take responsibility in every field to benefit our country and society in the new century of our Republic.”

Yapi Kredi’s net group profit in the 9 months of the year was ₺48.7 billion.

According to Yapi Kredi statement, the bank provided resources exceeding ₺1.1 trillion to the country’s economy in the 9 months of the year. The bank’s total cash loan volume increased by 31% since the beginning of the year to ₺763 billion, and its asset size reached ₺1.7 trillion.

Yapi Kredi’s total customer deposits increased by 42% in the 9 months of the year to ₺984 billion, and its return on equity was 46% as of September 30. The bank’s capital adequacy ratio, excluding the effect of legal regulations, was 17.8%.

Yapi Kredi Chief Executive (CEO) Gokhan Erun stated that they continue to support Turkiye in every field on the 100th anniversary of the Republic.

Erun stated that Yapi Kredi, which grows and develops with the values of the Republic, celebrates its 79th anniversary this year. ‘Since our establishment, we have always considered it our duty to protect the legacy of our Republic, which the great leader Mustafa Kemal Ataturk and his comrades in arms gifted us 100 years ago with great difficulty, and to follow its path with determination. In line with the words of our great leader Ataturk, ‘He who loves his country the most, is the one who does his duty best’, we have been working with all our strength for 79 years to remove the borders in every field and to do our duty in the best way, in addition to the finance sector, which is our main field of activity.’

Stating that they provided resources exceeding ₺1.1 trillion to the Turkish economy in the first 9 months of 2023, Erun said:

‘In the first half of the year, we signed our first social syndication loan agreement worth $580 million to be used in the foreign trade transactions of our customers in the provinces affected by the earthquake. In the third quarter, we continued to support our economy with the resources we provided from international markets, as an indicator of the trust in our bank and our country’s economy. In this quarter, we carried out the first sustainable Eurobond issuance of $500 million and a DPR (Diversified Receivable Rights) transaction worth approximately $1 billion. Approximately $310 million of the DPR transaction was sustainable-themed, while $203 million was provided from international financial institutions and sustainable funds. As Yapi Kredi, we will continue to work and take responsibility in every field to benefit our country and society in the new century of our Republic.’

‘We aim to contribute to a better educated generation’

Stating that they are working to remove borders in every field, not only in finance, for the future of the country in line with Yapi Kredi’s founding mission, Erun stated that they were on the field from the first day to heal the wounds of the region immediately after the earthquake disaster.

Erun explained that they created Customer Communication Center teams in Hatay, Adiyaman and Kahramanmaras and started receiving calls in order to make a sustainable contribution to the region, and made the following evaluation:

‘Today, we took our work for the disaster area to the next level. We started our Snowball for Tomorrow project, which we dedicated to the 100th anniversary of our Republic, with our children in the earthquake zone. With our Snowball for Tomorrow education project, we aim to contribute to a better-educated generation by supporting our children aged 0-6 and their families in the field of development. In this context, Prof. Dr. We are on the field with our volunteers and non-governmental organizations in the provinces affected by the disaster, with our training contents and sets prepared under the consultancy of Selcuk Sirin and the expert project team. We aim to introduce these trainings to millions of children and their families in Turkiye with our project that we will spread throughout the country in the ongoing process.’

‘We continue to work for the sustainable transformation of individuals’

Erun stated that the focus of all his work is on the aim of ‘benefiting people’ and once again emphasized the importance of the steps taken in the field of sustainability in this direction.

Pointing out that they are working meticulously to manage the environmental and social impacts arising from their operational activities as well as the indirect impact arising from their lending activities in the best possible way, Erun said, ‘In this sense, we are making a detailed transformation plan to fulfill our Scientific Based Targets (SBTi) commitment. On the other hand, we have joined the Net Zero Banking Alliance, the first and only net zero initiative for banks worldwide. In this regard, we have committed to align our lending and investment portfolios with net zero emissions by 2050. In addition to all our pioneering work, this year we became the only financial institution from Turkiye to sign the Finance Commitment for Biodiversity (FfB).’

Stating that they continue to work for the sustainable transformation of not only institutions but also individuals, Erun made the following assessment:

‘The number of our members in Yapi Kredi Step, the Yapi Kredi Sustainable Choice Program, which we implemented in order to trigger individual transformation, has reached 350 thousand and this number is increasing rapidly. So far, our Step member customers have saved 34 million pieces of paper and nearly 3 thousand trees with their healthy choices. As this number increases, the benefits created for a healthy and sustainable future will also increase. We provide a permanent, solution-oriented and sustainable contribution with Yapi Kredi Step, which we pioneered to advance the sustainability awareness and culture in our country. ‘We will continue to carry out studies that will trigger the transformation of all our stakeholders and to lead the sustainable transformation of our stakeholders in order to support the transition to a low-carbon economy with the aim of a sustainable future that is friendly to society, people and nature.’

‘We will continue to move the entrepreneurship ecosystem forward’

Explaining that they have carried out sector-shaping work for years in the field of digital banking, which they see as the driving force of sustainability, Erun emphasized that they also support the innovation culture and entrepreneurship ecosystem in the country with the entrepreneurship program Yapi Kredi FRWRD.

Erun said, ‘We attach great importance to the innovation culture and entrepreneurship ecosystem that we think will shape the present and future of the digital world. In this regard, as Yapi Kredi, we have created a strong innovation culture and ecosystem with Yapi Kredi FRWRD in order to lead the development of high value-added projects that will carry our country into the future and to support entrepreneurs. Finally, with Yapi Kredi FRWRD Global, which we carried out with the support of KOSGEB, we offered artificial intelligence startups the opportunity to introduce themselves, grow and expand into global markets in Europe, especially Estonia and Finland.
