Regulation prepared by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry has been published in the Official Gazette and entered into force.
Accordingly, on the label of a food product where flavoring is used entirely instead of a food component in its production, a real food image related to the flavor cannot be used.
The name of the food will now be written in the same font, style, and character size in the place where the consumer will see it at first glance on the shelf. Misleading images will not be allowed on food labels.
Expressions such as “… taste”, “… flavor”, “… enjoyment” will not be allowed for foods that consumers may confuse with each other or that resemble each other. Expressions such as butter flavor or butter taste will not be allowed in vegetable margarine.
Food operators will need to comply with the changes by December 31, 2026. Inappropriate foods will not be available on the market after this date.
