The International Air Transport Association (IATA) reported that global air passenger traffic increased by 55.5% in February compared to the same month last year, reaching approximately 85% of the pre-Covid-19 epidemic level.

IATA has announced the global total passenger demand statistics for February.

Accordingly, passenger traffic (passenger revenue per kilometer – RPK) in February increased by 55.5% compared to the same month of the previous year.

Thus, in February, passenger revenue per kilometer reached 84.9% of the level before the Covid-19 outbreak.

In February, international passenger demand increased by 89.7% compared to the same month of 2022, while domestic passenger demand increased by 25.2%.

International passenger demand reached 77.5% of the pre-epidemic level in February, while domestic passenger demand was 97.2% of the level recorded in the same month of 2019.

IATA General Manager Willie Walsh, whose views are included in the statement, stated that despite the uncertain economic signals, the demand for air travel continues to be strong around the world and especially in the Asia-Pacific region.

Pointing out that passenger demand remained about 15% below the 2019 level in February, Walsh emphasized that the said gap is closing every month.
